british stuff

I like 'British stuff'- as in the product of British 'kustom kulture', like rodded Ford pops and choppers with jap motors- and I bleedin' LOVE mk2 fords, consuls, zephyrs 'n' zodiacs. Great lines, kinda remind you of a time when mass-produced didn't mean bereft of all personality and style. I will own one. Here's a very 1980s one for ya, maybe pushes the good taste boundaries but you can't knock the work that's gone into it, and it is a job well done. For my taste, 5 spokes, bent 8, good stance and a tidy squirt job are all ya need to turn one of these classics into a cracking UK kustom.

Well, having had a top end strip last year and been given a clean bill of health, my sporty has taken a white-smoke oil-in-exhaust flavoured dump. 'kin harleys. What to do? In my experience you can strip and rebuild to your heart's content, but if you don't really know what yer doing, you're pissing in the wind. And paying out x hundred quid for a pro fix is out of my student budget, that's for sure. I'll have a word with my engine guy and see what he thinks. So...and this is just a thought...the fucka may be heading to ebay soon, and profits re-invested in a xs650. I figure if one of those gets a rebuild, it'll be a whole lot more reliable, and anyway, I've always liked 'em, they're a classic chop motor and look great. Drum brakes and kickers rule. Here's a few from a random google search, absolutely no marks if you spotted the hinckley bonneville that slipped past the radar.

to be honest, I kinda want to leave Guy's pix at the front of the blog, they are WICKED. can't wait to see that thing for real. But here's the tubes I was talking about. They'll even bend them up to any supplied pattern. shade over a one-er with axle plates and everything.

plus I vow...no more daydreaming on my part. I won't stop putting kool rides up on the site, but no more BS without spanners turned and welders fired up.

This was a proper labour of love and some big respect and thanks goes out to Pete and Big Ern for helping Guys dream come true.

yeh this is more the look- those cutdown sporty tanks are actually a bit goofy. mustang tank could be getting the nod, and i'm being strangely drawn to mini-apes. struts are cheap, nasty, and easy to swap back to shocks if i want.
roll on building time- but i'll be keeping it real simple cos college has a shitstorm brewing for me!

on another note- anyone found a good supplier of pinstripe gear? pinstriping uk are kinda pricey, and various US-based suppliers haven't been forthcoming with contact. any ideas gratefully received.


also, no pix yet, but i did a final polish on one of Darren's cast club plaques the other day. it came out a treat, the big guy's really done us proud. watch out for these beauties (that's the cars and plates, not the geezers) at the hayride in a week or so.

Pictures that is...this one's for dazzer, seeing as we were discussing future plans for my sporty. future CHEAP plans, that is- or at least, do-able with some ebay horse trading. note here the stock frame(with superfluous rubbish ground off), shortened and narrowed stock tank mounted high on the frame, short brit rear fender,bates style light and seat, tidied-up window bars on low risers, and a skinny one-off(biltwell kit?)exhaust. The finish and attention to detail really complete the look. ok it's not a 'chopper' per se, but it's a full-on hot rod in my book. Thoughts? Better tell Graham 'the mystery canoeist' to fire up his MIG.


If you hadn't noticed, the pictured bike is yet another from japanese master builders 'crazy orange'. Personally I don't care about 'jap style', 'west coast style' 'east coast' 'brat style' or whatever, it ain't a fashion thing.


CLUB NEWS- Darren has just finished a bunch of plaques ready for the hayride. they are fuckin' SWEET. I've got one to polish up just so the big guy desn't steal all the glory (only joking bruv).
